William Pesek 氏と言う方が、こんなに露骨に書いている。 John Bolton's book shows that Trump sees Asia as an ATM
つまり、トランプ氏にとって、アジアはATMのようないつでもお金が引き出せる存在であるということだ。 もちろん、こうした書き方が大好きな（背伸び好き）評論家はいろいろにいるだろう。 US President wants to extract as much money as possible from China and even allies
Bolton's The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir makes clear that despite Abe's extreme efforts to befriend him, Trump treats Japan no better than South Korea or the Philippines. For Trump, friendly nations are an ATM he can extract payments from. This leaves Abe with some serious buyer's remorse -- and lots of explaining to do.
Japan is hardly alone. Bolton's book clarifies Asia's place in the Trump worldview: an economic machine to be stripped for parts by a mercantilist and transactional U.S. -- and one which is a direct target for Trump between now and November 3 when Americans cast ballots in the next presidential election.
Trump threats raise question: Can Bolton's book proceeds be seized?
Geroge Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley wrote in an op-ed for The Hill that a criminal prosecution as discussed by Trump, who has a long history of exaggeration, might be a stretch -- but that it's possible Bolton could lose out on his book proceeds.
"In waiting for Bolton to run, the Justice Department handed him just enough rope to hang himself," he said. "Given the prior notice of classified content, it could bring a criminal prosecution under the Espionage Act, though such prosecutions are rare and difficult. The main goal would be the profits."
